I VERONI WINERY - TUSCANY

Azienda Agricola Chianti Rufina I VeroniIn the Middle Ages, the farm “I Veroni” was part of a very big feudal domain located in the Arno valleys, owned and controlled by the counts Guidi. In facts, originally the main building was a sighting tower no more visible today, because it is hidden by the various buildings and modifications that, in the course of ages, caused the present structure.

The name “I Veroni” comes from the wide terraces bordering the yard of the farm, on which tobacco leaves and grain cultivated in the plain along the Arno banks were dried up. From the Guidi it passed to the Gatteschi family which, in 1809, built the first stone tank  for wine fermentation, partially visible today inside the historical cellar. After the first part of the 19th century the property passed to Modigliani of Rufina family and at the beginning of the 20th century the firm was bought by Carlo Malesci, and it still belongs to his family.

The fields owned by the Farm “I Veroni” stretch today around S. Martino a Quona Church, upon Pontassieve hills for more or less 50 hectares, twelve of which were cultivated with vineyards and twenty with olive trees, at a height of 240-280 meters o.s.l. From the vintage of 1996 Lorenzo Mariani took over the management of the firm. With the collaboration of A. Paoletti, an agronomist and a good friend, he has started an important work of reorganization and specialization of the viticultural activity. Azienda Agricola Chianti Rufina I Veroni

The installation of new vineyards, started in 1998, was undertaken with the purpose of having, at the and of the works, all specialized vineyards with an average density of plants per hectare not inferior to 5.000 stumps/ha and with more or less 90% of the vine plants planted with Sangiovese.

The work and the enthusiasm of this new management is now part of the more general and prosperous activity of development and improvement of their own wines, that the Chianti Rufina territory has been living during the last years.
Our Company offers a dynamic range of wines composed of these selections: Chianti Rufina DOCG, Terre del Pelacane, Chianti Rufina DOCG RISERVE and Vinsanto of Chianti Rufina DOC.

The wines are extraordinarely tied to the Rufina territory and to the ancient Sangiovese grape which, in the Rufina area, confers an unmistakable authentic character to the wine.

Azienda Agricola Chianti Rufina I VeroniOur RESERVE, a bland of Sangiovese, represents the tradition and the future. After a long fermentation with dregs the wine is aged and refined in small oak barrels of 500 litres each.
The young Chianti Rufina is a wine of great power with rich flowers and red fruits scents. Just like a Riserva, it can be combined with opulent dishes.

I Veroni is proud to introduce  “Terre del Pelacane”, a wine born to produce a separate and exclusive blend of international grapes cultivated with great care in the ancient Pelacane vineyards inside I Veroni estate.

Terre del Pelacane is a soft modern elegant wine obtained after  a one year aging process in French  Tonneaux oak.

Our VINSANTO is produced with the best grapes, carefully selected in the best vineyards. After a very slow pressing of withered grapes and the must decantation our vinsanto is matured for at least 5 years in oak and chestnut wood casks with a total capacity not superior to 100 litres. The refining period in glass lasts for more or less 12/14 months.
